Ashok Sewnarain, 54, is barely known in his native Durban but in the arcane world of international business and commerce he is something of a luminary. He is an accomplished businessman with interests in the property and hotel industry in SA and abroad. He is the owner of SA’s first privately owned safe deposit vaults, in Durban’s Gateway Mall and in Sandton, Johannesburg.
He likes to push boundaries, is enthralled by exotic and fast cars, and is a philanthropist of note. He is the founder of the IBV Supercar Club which has a membership of more than 700 supercar owners and is recognised as one of the world’s leading supercar clubs. Members of the club often raise funds for charity. Last year they won the Guinness world record for raising R1m for Child Welfare of SA in record time. The club has also partnered with the United Nations Children’s Fund Unicef in raising money for charity.
